天津博物馆藏元代著名画家钱选的《花鸟图》手卷,以其隽雅清新的画风享誉中国画史和收藏史,为天津博物馆不可多得的精品之一。
钱选,浙江吴兴人,工诗,善书、画,为吴兴八俊之一。约生于宋端平二年(1235年),经历了宋元更迭,入元后,坚决不仕,流连诗画以终其身。他性情孤傲,才华横溢,为宋末元初花鸟画的代表人物。
藏于天津博物馆的《花鸟图》手卷,高38厘米,长316.7厘米,纸本,设色。全画分三段:第一段桃花翠鸟,画一枝春桃花繁叶茂,枝头站立一只通体羽毛幽蓝的翠鸟,小鸟身体直立,极目远眺,正是鸟儿振翅起飞前的瞬间写照。第二段牡丹,画一束绿叶中,盛开着两朵淡粉的牡丹,叶子向左下微垂,似有阵阵清风掠过。第三段干枝梅,画一棵梅枝垂挂而下,错节的大小梅枝上许多梅花盛开。钱选画花鸟善于捕捉实景中最生动自然的情形,形态逼真富有情趣,此卷正是钱选这一画风的充分体现。图画设色淡雅清丽,精巧传神,洋溢着隽秀清高之美,构图虽简,但更显画家的技法精湛。
如此形象准确,神态生动,笔力遒劲的得意之作,钱选自然要赋诗题上。在每段画的后面,都有钱选自题的七言诗一首。第一段和第三段的题诗已漫漶不能全识,第二段题诗如下:头白相看春又残,折花聊助一时欢。东君命驾归何连,犹有余情在牡丹。题诗以行楷书写,含蓄内敛、平淡天真,严谨而朴拙,颇有钟繇遗风。画卷诗情画意相得益彰,为钱选花鸟画的至精之作。卷尾署“至元甲午画于太湖之滨并题,习懒翁钱选舜举”。可知这是钱选晚年所作,正值钱选诗书画印诸艺炉火纯青之时。

Qian Xuan was an important early Yuan artist, accomplished in landscape, bird and flower, and figure painting. The lifelike style of Qian’s bird and flower painting skilfully captured the animated and spontaneous mood of the natural world. These works were highly influential on bird and flower paintings both during the Yuan and in subsequent ears. This painting is split into three sections: peach blossoms and a blue-green bird, peonies, and plum blossoms. Qian has inscribed each section with a self-authored poem, the content of which corresponds with the painted subject. This piece is one of Qian Xuan’s finest bird and flower paintings. The imagery is meticulously rendered in powerful and firm brushwork that imbues the work with a sense of vitality.
Qian Xuan had the style name Shun Ju, and the personal name Jade Pool. He was a native of Wuxing in Zhejiang, and was a talented poet and an accomplished painter and calligrapher, skilled in landscape, figure painting, and bird and flower subjects. His innovative style of figure painting, with its lofty archaism and use of gossamer thread strokes to depict clothing, was highly praised at the time.
